Police responded to welfare check calls at Rob Reiner’s Los Angeles home on at least two occasions in the years before he and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were killed at the residence. Their son, Nick Reiner, who lived on the property, has been charged in connection with their murder.

Records obtained by PEOPLE show that police went to the Brentwood home twice in 2019 — once for a call coded as a welfare check and once for a call classified as mental health–related.

The first call, placed at 9:51 p.m. on Feb. 25, 2019, was logged as a welfare check that instructed officers to “go to” a woman upon arrival, according to LAPD records reviewed by PEOPLE. Officers arrived at the home at 10:12 p.m., completed the call, and reported the incident to a supervisor.

Months later, on Sept. 27, 2019, police responded to a mental health–related call for service involving a male individual placed at 4:24 p.m. Officers arrived at the residence at 5:07 p.m. and informed a supervisor that they found “no indication of mental illness,” the records state.

The records do not identify the person who contacted police or the individual who was the subject of either call.

The Daily Mail was first to report the calls made to police.

Nick, 32 — who was reportedly being treated for schizophrenia — is facing two counts of first-degree murder following the deaths of his parents, Rob, 78, and Michele, 70. Prosecutors allege the couple was killed during the early morning hours of Sunday, Dec. 14, inside their home in Los Angeles.

Three days later, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that both victims died from multiple sharp-force injuries and classified the deaths as homicides.

Approximately six hours after the bodies were discovered, authorities arrested Nick near the University of Southern California. He remains in custody without bail, and his arraignment is scheduled for Jan. 7, 2026. Authorities have not publicly shared a possible motive.

The night prior to the killings, Rob and his son were involved in what sources described to PEOPLE as a “very loud argument” at a party hosted by Conan O’Brien on Saturday, Dec. 13.

Nick has previously spoken about long-standing struggles with addiction and periods of homelessness that began during his teenage years. A source close to the family recently told PEOPLE that Rob and Michele “tried everything — giving him space, keeping him close — but his struggles run very deep. It’s every parent’s worst fear.”
