Texas Student Left on School Bus All Day After Being Overlooked Following Morning Route

A student with the Connally Independent School District in Texas was found to have been left on a school bus for an entire school day on Monday, April 20
School officials are investigating after it was determined that the student was left behind following the bus' morning route
The bus driver and bus aide were placed on administrative leave following the mistake
A student missed school, all because he never actually got off the school bus.
School officials with the Connally Independent School District (CISD) — which covers students from kindergarten to 12th grade — in Lacy Lakeview, Texas, are investigating after a student was found to have been left on a school bus for an entire school day, according to local outlets KWTX and KCENTTV.
The incident happened on Monday, April 20, and the student — who was not identified — was eventually found by a school bus driver.
It was later determined that the student had been left behind during the school bus’s morning commute, and the student opted to stay on the school bus the entire school day, per the outlets.

The school district told KCENTTV that it was working closely with Texas Rural Student Transportation, which runs and oversees the local school buses, to investigate how the situation may have occurred.
CISD has also reported the incident to oversight agencies for further investigations or audits, per the outlet.

"Regardless of the cause, we acknowledge the significance of this event and commit to putting additional checks and fail-safes into place to prevent something like this from ever happening again," CISD told KCENTTV.
Following the incident, the bus driver and bus aide were placed on administrative leave, the school district told KCENTTV. It is unclear whether they will return after the completion of the investigation.
The school district also told KWTX that it would put additional checks in place to prevent a similar incident from happening again.

CISD said, per KCENTTV, that it was also investigating a separate incident of a school bus that was involved in a rear-end collision on the I-35 access road, near a Road Ranger convenience store. The bus did not have students on board at the time, and the bus driver was not hurt.
In response to the collision, the school district said that they were reviewing safety precautions.
